Fresh install! Need tips, Windows 7 64-bit

crunzaty

Hi Forum!

I’m doing a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my new system.

All I need now is some tips, every time I do this I always like to be prepared for most of the issues and have most of my programs pre-downloaded on a USB stick with a list of all the programs I use.

As of yet I have chosen some things on the ninite site and put the .exe in the USB thumb-stick for now so I can just run it when I get my system up and running again.

Here is a list of all the programs I have setup as of yet:

Web Browsers:
Chrome & Firefox

Messaging:
Skype, TeamSpeak, Mumble & Ventrilo

Media:
VLC & Daum PotPlayer

Runtimes:
Java, .NET & Silverlight

Security:
Microsoft security essentials & Malwarebytes

Utilities:
TeamViewer, ImgBurn & TeraCopy

Compression:
7-Zip & WinRAR

Other:
Picasa, Adobe Reader, Microsoft office, Dropbox, Steam, Origin, Uplay, Everything, CCleaner, Diskeeper, Action!, CPU-Z, GPU-Z, HWMonitor, HWInfo, Dxtory, MSI Afterburner & Speccy

40% of the programs is from Ninite.com ;)

- Is there anything missing on that list?

- Is there something i don't need on the list?

All help will be Greatly appreciated!

I do recommend Uniblue driverscanner for getting all of your drivers fast and easily downloaded to your computer. It also installes and makes recovery copies for safe driver updates aswell.

PS. do the videocard drivers manually.

The two most important things to download are motherboard drivers and graphics drivers.  Once you have those you can pretty much do whatever you want.

And WinRAR is a piece of you know what, why is that on the list?  7zip handles RARs just fine.

I'd replace MSE with Avast, ditch WinRAR (pointless when you have 7-zip) and ditch Adobe Reader (Firefox and Chrome can open PDFs) unless you need a specialised feature of Adobe Reader.

I'd also not let Java touch my system and Silverlight isn't really needed any more (unless you have Netflix), but you probably do need Flash.

Add-ons for browsers, Firefox: AdBlock Plus (but be sure to allow sites you trust and want to support to display adverts, like LTT), NoScript, Ghostery, HTTPS Everywhere and Better Privacy.

Chrome: Adblock Plus (again allow the sites you want to), NotScript and Ghostery or DoNotTrackMe.

I will never set my foot an avast again, i like it but it's the most annoying shit in the world xD Thanks for the tip tho.

I do indeed need silverlight for Netflix, not that i watch it that much but it's a good and cheap streaming service^^

I have actually never heard of any of those add-ons (besides Adblock plus ofc) ;o

Thanks for the tip, i will be sure to check it out :)

Highly recommend using Ninite for installing software after a fresh install: http://ninite.com/

If you look at what i typed at the top it says that most of these is being downloaded trough/with ninite, but thanks anyways ;)
