i am torn between a single reference gtx 980

2 MSI gtx 960 2GD5T OC in SLI

or a single  reference GTX 970

i want white and black computer, but i am uncomfortable modding the green led on the reference cards

Help?

A single 970 and then a second one if/when you need more power. 

 

I'd go with the Gigabyte G1 gaming 970 and just block off the blue LED. 

 

One of the biggest things with Maxwell is the huge overclocking headroom, something, which is less existent on a reference cooler/pcb.

If you can only get an reference GTX 980 then get 2 MSI GTX 970 SLI. If not go with GTX 980

Despite the vram allocation problem, 970 offer u much better performance/dollar.

Get a Gigabyte 970 and tape over the LED. Done, all black card, and you can use the rest of the components for white accents.
