I currently have an XFX Radeon HD 5570 (yes). i want a temporary upgrade to play games at a playable FPS until i save up for a R9 295X2. What would be a good temporary upgrade till i can save up for an R9 295x2? I'm thinking the R9 270 will be feasible because its easily available in-store at Best Buy. Maybe the R7 260? I dont want to spend much on it as it will be temporary. The most i want it to be able to do is run Bioshock 2 & Infinite, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and similar games minimum at 1080P, medium - high graphics. All suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.

Now that i think about it, ill probably wait till the 300 series for the big upgrade. I'd prefer to stick with AMD for the big boys. I plan on Mantle titles. But i cant play crap on that 5570. Are the 750 ti and 270 the same price? Which performs better?

it's 1/2 of an r9-290 (which if you bought might even persuade you not to get the 295x2)
or wait for 300 series.
and dont go lower than 270, you'll drop memory bandwidth in half by going to 128bus and while amd uses color compression, there's only so much software can do to eliminate hardware limits.

750ti is 80% of the performance for the same price 128bit bus and doesnt require a pcie power (not a problem unless you dont have one) and allows for use of an nvidia shield if you prefer tablet gaming i guess.

80% meaning its not as good or 80% better? But i dont really care about the shield connect thing. I dont plan on getting one.

Ok let me just say DO NOT but the 295x2...

But I'll leave that up to you to decide (I'm only saying don't buy it because lots of games won't utilize the second GPU)

Anyway I would personally get a 270x or a 960 if you can find one for cheap :) Since you want a temporary solution go look for some used cards.

Never thought about that. What wouldnt bottleneck with a 295x2 or future equivalent 300 series card (guessing of course)?

The lowest would probably be just about any Haswell i5 (preferably an overclocked 4690k, but something like an i5-4460 would probably do fine as well), any lower (like an i3/any FX CPU) would probably bottleneck quite significantly compared to an i5 most of the time at 1080p/1440p.

What about FX 8-core?

It would still bottleneck as the FX 8350 barely performs any better than an FX 43xx/63xx (and likely your 6100) in most games as they don't take advantage of nearly 8 cores.

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/285927-gaming-performance-between-4300-8350-and-4-threaded-performance-between-amd-intel/

An 8350 bottlenecks single 970/290 setups in many games and it's not really a good option for any gamer at this point in time as it's 2-3 years old and relatively obsolete.

Not even the 9590 will do?

Not even close, it performs pretty much the same as a overclocked 8350 in games. (the 9590 is just an overclocked 8350, and FX chips don't benefit that much from overclocking compared to Intel chips from what I've seen/heard)

AMD just doesn't have any high end CPU's right now, only low end stuff. We'll have to wait until at least 2016 (Zen) before we see them (possibly) becoming competitive in the medium-high end CPU's.

I hate to say this but Intel is the only option, unless you're at 4k, to go with a high end GPU if you want to use your graphics card at its full potential.

Damn. There's no chance I can afford a new motherboard and processor. Well, thanks.
