Black screen after replacing CPU?

Hi guys,

I have got a bit of a problem. I had an intel haswell pentium, which I have just swapped for an i5 4690k but I am getting a fully black screen.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Kalinco

Electro Static Discharge, that is quite a conclusion to jump to. Is there enough power going to the PC?

put your old pentium back in

see if it boots

if it does i would suggest installing the latest bios then try the i5 again

if it doesnt boot with the old pentium you may have damaged pins.

You need a BIOS update. If the H81 chipset will work at all

From:-

"It looks like Intel doesn’t intend the Devil’s Canyon to be used in older 8 series motherboards. If you are an owner of an 8 series motherboard and plan to upgrade to a Devil’s Canyon using your current motherboard, I strongly recommend that you ask your motherboard manufacturer first to see if your motherboard can really support Devil’s Canyon."

Did you reset the CMOS? Just put a jumper on the two CMOS pins for a couple of seconds, pull the jumper off, and then try again with the 4690k.

EDIT: I forgot some boards also will have three pins and you need to move the jumper between them. Look for clearing the CMOS in your motherboard's manual.
