GPU Undervolting

Go to solution Solved by Kyuubixchidori,

You cut it by 200Mv without any drawbacks damn.

yeah, but the sapphire card came with a stupid high voltage stock.

I have a 7950 asus triple cooler, and a the sapphire 7970. when I game i run them with the low clock so its nice and quiet, and they can keep any game at 60 fps. but Im a huge benchmark whore, so I run them at 1.2 volts and 1175 on the core lol. but its so nice to have a quiet gaming rig

Anyone ever done it and if so what benefit did you see.

yes! if you only want stock performance, undervolt like mad. I dont see why others dont do it. My gpus(CROSSFIRE!) stay silent under gaming load. Its so nice to have a rig that can run any game 1080P60fps and not be any louder then at idle.

cuts down your temps by a LOT. Highly recommend it if you want to keep fan noise down.

How did you go about it. did you just lower the voltage until the card wasn't stable anymore or?

exactly, like my saphire 7970 runs at stock 1175 mv, Have it running at 925 mv. and 800mhz on the core.

Or I go balls out, and 1175mv, and 1200 core. thats loud though. I go with just under stock voltage, and 1000 on core when I run dual cards. right now I only have one card in, just did a temp test to confirm for you, the card at 925mv is running at 55*C with no fan noise at all.

I'll try dropping it by 50Mv tomorrow, thanks for the help.

I just leave valley benchmark in the background, slowly stop it until it crashes, then go up by 25mv. I could probably go lower with mine, but im happy with the temps.

My heavy overclock is sketchy though. my display driver crashes when i start up my pc, and sometimes right when a game starts up, but once it starts up its stable lol

Nah, my 270 runs cool. I just overclock it on the stock voltage. I did overvolt it from 1.163 to 1.2 (I think it was 1.2 anyway) once by modding the BIOS but the overclocking advantage was very little.

On my laptop I undervolt on the battery to save battery life. (Saves a good 2-3 hours at least. It's a pretty power hungry GPU.)
