I think the second one is better however Asus are overpriced without ROG and sabertooth so can you get a different motherboard. I think the G1 sniper is much better.

cpu: intel i5 4670k @ 4.5ghz Ram: G skill ares 2x4gb 2166mhz cl10 Gpu: GTX 680 liquid cooled cpu cooler: Raijintek ereboss Mobo: gigabyte z87x ud5h psu: cm gx650 bronze Case: Zalman Z9 plus

If you are going to be just gaming, neither of those CPUs are the best choice. I would say go for an i5 4670k, as the extra cores usually do not improve gaming performance.

If you are only gaming I would save a few dollar and just go with a 4670K and beef up the graphics card instead.

Asus make some good Mobos which you can't go wrong with really. I would definitely second on the G1 Sniper though as well.

but then the build cost about the same as the i7 3820 so which 1 should i go for the 3820 or the haswell route just not sure which one is better

the 3820 is more or less a standard sandybridge i7 but with 4 memory channels.

so I'd say go for the 4670K and a GD65 board if possible.

I am going to go against some of the people here and say get that 4770k. Now listen all mainstream games (Battlefield, COD, ext) are ported from consoles to pc. Since the xbox one and ps4 had amd 8 core processors it might be smart to get that 4 core/ 8 thread processor. DO NOT GO WITH x79 it is overpriced for the performance and unless you are doing coding, its not a good choice for a gamer. Get a 780 or a 7970 and a 4770k. Thats all you will need for the next 3-6 years.

Since you said you'll be gaming mostly, take the i5 4670k and G1.Sniper 5 combo, that's the one I'm going with - for a reason. And it's not at all more expensive than the Deluxe ASUS board + 4770k, au contraire, it's a lot cheaper, and the money you save you can put towards more graphical power, which is what this is all about.

Ivy Bridge-e series is an option too, and I see you're shooting for an x79... Even then I'd still recommend the 4670k + G1, it's great bang for the buck.

Alternatively you can go with the MSI gaming series board, which I saw someone recommended above, it too is a great choice for a great price.

But if you MUST have 8 threads (for some future-proofing I guess), then go 4770k, but I found myself In a similar situation 5 years ago when i built my main gaming rig. I went for the cheaper core2duo and saved money for a better GPU, even though everybody said the quad core is the future. And then after 4 years I bought a used quad core on the cheap (when I accually felt like I need it), overclocked it and I use it even today. Remember, that was 4 years before everyone said I'll really need it.

My advice is: don't overkill your CPU, it won't pay off, put the saved money towards a better GPU, then after a couple of years you can buy a (then outdated) i7 or whatever floats your boat, for when you really can use it to the fullest.

Intel 4770k@4.6GHz, ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero, Kingston HyperX Beast 2x8GB 2400MHz CL11, Gigabyte GTX 1070 Gaming, Kingston HyperX 3k 240GB - RAID0 (2x120Gb), 2xWD 1TB (Blue and Green), Corsair H100i, Corsair AX860, CoolerMaster HAF X, ASUS STRIX Tactic pro, Logitech G400S, HyperX Cloud II, Logitech X530, Acer Predator X34.

The "high end performance" will not last that long. Games will still need good single threaded performance and since x79 is based on sandy and future ivy bridge, single threaded performance will not be as good. Trust me as a gamer the future should be 8 threaded, but for now it is 4 cores. Either get a 4670k or a 4770k. Get a 4670k now and pick up an 5770k in the future as broadwell will be the same socket. There is no reason to get a x79 class cpu for gaming. Save your money on a graphics card or two.

Dude use that money to get a better gpu. End of story. x79 is the renders dream, you sir said that you are a gamer. Making no reason to get x79. Just get a 4670k a h110 and graphics card/s. In 2 years get a 5770k and then your good for a good 4-6 years. Just take my advice you will be happy. Just becouse you want the best of the best doesnt mean you need it or it will perform any better. x79 vs haswell its AT MOST 2 fps which in my case is the margin of error.

I went intel i3 with this build. It costs $413 so a little over budget but will be much better for your uses. The i3 will give you much better gaming and rendering performance.
