Hello everyone. Im building my first computer soon. I'm planning to upgrade it later on. But i am debating if i should get 2 sapphire R9 280's in crossfire or should i get an 285 or 280x. Or should i go for something from nVidia? And are all of these changes even possible?

My Build goes like this:

Case: Coolermaster HAF 912

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Power Supply: CoolerMaster B500 500W. 2x 6+2 PCIe

CPU: AMD FX-6300 6-core Black Edition

RAM: 8GB Crucial DDR3 1600 Mhz (Going to be upgraded)

SSD: Intel 530 Series 120GB

Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3GB

Also is this a good build, especially after my upgrades?

Get a better card, this way you don't have to change your PSU.

Sell your GPU and get a R9 290,.

He needs a new PSU.

The Cooler Master B500 is the cheapest out of the three, but also performs the least. We can't look past the fact that in the 400W test the 12V rails dips below 11.4V. But since it's cheap and does have a low ripple, if your PC will never use more than 300 watts, this is not a bad option. If you need more power than that, keep looking.

My budget for an entire Pc is around 950 Dollars.

But for graphics card its around 250-260 Dollars.

Don't divvy up your budget for each component but instead plan the system as a whole unless you're asking for an unbalanced build.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Thanks a lot, but here in the EU prices are nearly the double of what they cost in the US. But i might be getting the PSU. As well as the MoBo and CPU

280X or 290 for single GPU.

I think the 280 crossfire would be fine.  The 3 GB of VRAM is more than enough for 1080p, and you'll get great performance.

There are downsides though.  New releases often don't support crossfire right away, which means you'll be limited to a single card.  Lords of the Fallen for example still only supports SLI and not crossfire.

Personally I used crossfire rigs for ~3 years and I got tired of having to wait for my games to work the way I wanted them to.  It's amazing when it does work, and I spent much less money for great performance when I bought my 270X's (I paid $450 for 290X tier performance which was at the time still price inflated due to litecoin mining.)

I was thinking the same way. There's always a great hassle running more than one graphics card, especially Crossfire. So i think im going to get either a 290x or 970 (when it drops in price and if my PSU can run it) or i might wait and see if a 950 or 960 is coming out.
