Lagging internet

hHi guys, I'm currently lagging on my internet when I play multiplayer games. Usually I lag when my parents return from work and connect to the network. How do I solve this problem? I'm currently running a 2mbps download and a 1mbps upload network. I'm currently using a NBG-417N router.

Unfortunately your speeds are just too slow. Nothing you can do other than pay more for your internet.

^That's your problem. You could try enabling QoS or setting up bandwidth limiters(don't be surprised if they ask why the internet is so slow), but these won't solve your problem.

Is it possible not to change the internet? Its just the ping going high when they connect. What exactly is the problem?

Are you playing league of legends on EUW by any chance? If so, there has been issues with the service for a couple of weeks now...

No I play do play league of legends but not in EUW. I know its not league's fault because everytime they come home and connect to the internet, my ping will shoot up like fireworks and seldom comes down

Quality of Service, it can equalize bandwidth so that 1 person doesn't hog the internet. Its effectiveness depends on the router and how your internet connection handles simultaneous streams/data, so enabling this can or cant solve your problem(good chance its already enabled).

So is it possible if I change my router? I'm planning to buy Linksys WRT1900AC but I want to know what exactly is the problem. My router is old and it need a change. I can't change the internet because of my stubborn dad who wants to save money.

No its your internet i have 15mbps and still lag if i have someone playing a facebook game and another surfing the web.

So am I right to say that the amount of download speed I have is shared among the devices that connects to the same network?

Your internet is terrible. I'm not sure where you are (globally) but try and get that bumped up significantly. Keep on eye on what up speed you get too. My ISP (my dad got this years ago) makes no mention of the upspeed they offer and say they give 50 down. They give like 5 up which is bs since that'll probably bottleneck anyway.

This is kind of a dick move, but set your computer to priority on the network. Google QOS.
