Hi,

I noticed some frame drops when playing GTA IV and Dirt 2 (which are quite old games) on my GTX 750, so I installed the GPU-Z tool to find out what was going on. I realized that the temperature of the GPU was around 85°C after a 45 minute gaming session, and I think that it's causing some throttling.

I built this PC in last September and cleaned it about two months ago after installing a new motherboard. The case is quite well ventilated with one 80mm fan in the front and another one in the back, and the CPU is cooled by a 16 cm high ThermalTake cooler (sorry I forgot the diameter of the fans). By the way, the CPU temperature rarely exceeds 40°C. Also, just a few minutes after gaming, the GPU temperature drops to around 40°C and the fans speed is around 30% (vs 100% when gaming).

So is there any way to reduce the temperature when gaming?

Thanks

85°C does seem a bit high for a 750, but not in general

Since 750s come with an open cooler, I think your best bet is either improving your case ventilation or getting something like Kraken from NZXT (not sure if it's compatible though).

Oh, and check the thermal paste on the GPU, you might need to replace it.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

It just seems like a waste of money investing in a 750. Might as well get a 960 as it's set for release soon.

Yes, but nevertheless, mounting a Kraken (assuming it's possible) is also a solution. A ridicilous one, yes.

which 750 do you have

Here is the reference :Gigabyte GV-N750OC-2GI - GeForce GTX 750 2 Go

Maybe adjust the fan pattern in MSI Afterburner.

Also go into the Nvidia control panel and change the power saving mode from 'Adaptive' to 'prefer maximum performance'.

If this fails then try under clocking the card and saving up for a new one.

I just tried this. I'm testing now (so you're forcing me to game even more :-) )

New thermal compound.

I got this graphic card in last September, so I'd rather return it than add some new thermal compound. And I said above, the case is well ventilated (1 input fan and 1 fan output one, plus one after market CPU cooler.
