What monitor should I buy?

Søren Bjerg

Hi there,

I'm a gamer mainly, although I watch a lot of youtube and sometimes movies. I'm looking for 1440p or ultrawide as my monitor (so no 1080p or less or 4k), don't need a 144hz refresh rate as I am happy with 60 hz. My budget is around 800 AUD. My PC runs 2 gtx 980s so it can handle whatever you throw at it and the minimum size I'm looking for is 27". I've seen the Rog Swift, but for 1000 bucks it's just too much. The LG34UM95 also looks bloody amazing but it's so expensive at 1200 bucks.

Thanks

Wait for a few months there are some 144hz monitors coming out that will be cheaper.

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

1440p is a defined resolution, 2560x1440. All 1440p monitors will be just as widescreen as each other ;)

By widescreen I mean 21:9

You mean Ultrawide?

• 16:9 = Widescreen

• 21:9 = Ultrawide

At least in the computing world it does.

No worries!

Would $800 AUD be your absolute max budget or could you go a tad high, if so, how much higher?

Yeah, that's pretty decent, but for the exact same price you can get this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28308

You get 360 more pixels of resolution vertically. For me, at least, it didn't make any sense, but if you like it then go for it mate! :)

It's also 2 inches shorter though - I don't think I mind 360 extra pixels of resolution.

Edit:

After doing some calculations for pixel count

1080p 20736009

Ultrawide:

2764800

1440p 3686400
Wow the difference is actually quite large.

Huh? I'm confused. Are you trying to say that the BenQ monitor is 2 inches shorter?

The 360 extra pixels vertically that I was noting was in relation to the BenQ GW2765HT.

Look:

• BenQ - 27" 2560x1449

• LG - 29" 2560x1080

Just take a look at this (referring to the vertical resolution alone):

• 1440 - 1080 = 360

;)

Maybe this will better help to explain what I'm talking about: http://www.displaywars.com/27-inch-16x9-vs-29-inch-21x9
