Lol, smartphones need to resort to those kind of methods to get reception, and yet my old sony is able to get 2 bars in areas its supposed replacement (Xperia) gets none.

cellphone antennas push more power when the signal is weak in order to maintain a constant connection. Thus, a stronger signal would yield less battery draw and I would believe it to be somewhat significant because these antennas use a lot of power

like to me, it almost seems like a marketing scheme.
