Because the X99 platform can support 128GB of non-ecc memory. I think Windows supports up to 512GB

Yeah but the CPUs dont, so why would you want to put 128GB...

noo...

?

lol

Though I've heard nothing about 16GB DDR4 sticks, I was almost assuming we'd have the 8GB limit like DDR3. Haven't really looked though as I'm not looking to do an x99 build.

Also ITX builds.

In the future sockets, with itx boards, it'll be nice to have more than 16GB of ram.

I'm talking about the i7s, not xeons

http://ark.intel.com/products/82930/Intel-Core-i7-5960X-Processor-Extreme-Edition-20M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz

If he was going to use xeons then he could just buy 16 or 32GB ECC DIMMs, be he obviously wants non-ecc for a reason

I thought the latest CPU's supported 128GB of non-ecc but I guess it's just the mobos. The i7's only support non-ecc. Maybe the next revision will support it and/or 128GB of non-ecc.

Yeah the most i7s support is 64GB even though the motherboards can do 128

So the only reason to want 16GB non-ECC DIMMS would be if you wanted to only use 4 of the 8 ram slots for some reason... but that would just be more expensive

ITX builds in the future.

And I would like more non-ECC memory. There are a lot of good motherboards that while they would take a xeon, will not take ECC memory.

Maybe someone bought the mATX EVGA X99 board and wants the full 64GB :D
