Is my CPU only running at half its speed? Valley shows it at 1.5Mhz

Go to solution Solved by roberrrtz,

Brilliant, thanks. :0)

and when the trial period is over you can use occt

I have a Foxconn A7VMX-K with a 3200Mhz AMD Phenom II X4 955 but valley is reading the processor speed as 1500Mhz.

Is this normal? Shouldn't it top out at 3200Mhz?

Valley has inaccurate readings

use othersoftware to take the CPU and GPU readings

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I just ran it in a window with Speedfan and it's nowhere near maxing out the CPU. Maybe valley's just not CPU intensive?

I've not checked out the bios yet. Valley's just showing the processor speed to have topped out at 1400Mhz but Speedfan is showing lots of deviation and it's not maxing out any of the cores.

Uhhh...Unigine Valley is a GPU, Graphics Card, benchmark.

Not a CPU benchmark.

It even says this on the Unigine homepage...

I know, it just seems strange to me that the reading for the CPU should be showing a level 1400Mhz. It seems odd.

Also the O.S. is showing the cpu as unrecognised which was making me worry it might not be just a bios problem (the current cpu was added to the tested compatible list for the motherboard as a revision but there's been no bios revision).

I've looked at the bios but I can't see anything that would be stopping it from running at full steam.

I stress tested it with Prime95 and it maxed out all four cores but it runs cooler running Prime95 than it does valley. I can only imagine it's the heat from the graphics card that's causing a general rise in system temperature. Depending on fan noise I might switch to an extractor type gpu heatsink, rather than the open silent heatsink. It may even stop the case fans from ramping up, although I think that might just be a faulty sensor.
