I'll look at the bsod message when it happens again

yea the HDD is indeed dying

backup and replace the HDD ASAP

So I know this is a bad laptop but I had for a long time now and I am saving for a new laptop.

My laptop just randomly freezes up and HHD led stops working the model is a sony vaio vgn-nr38m. Should I try to put a new harddrive in(have tons of them laying around) Or is the problem something else. The laptop also bluescreens in idle. I have tried wiping the drive and that didn't fix it.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
