PSU question

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Ignore the psu recommendations on the graphics card site as they are inflated to cover their butts. A good 500w is already plenty.

Asking just to be sure :).

I'll upgrade my build with better graphics card. And was thinking i'm fine with 650W PSU. But then i saw that GTX 980 need at least 600W? So now i'm bit stuck. Should i get 650W or 750W. (i'm still thinking that 650W will handle it)

PSU to choose:

Seasonic X-Series X-650 - 650 Watt 80 PLUS® Gold Certified

or

Seasonic X-Series X-750 - 750 Watt 80 PLUS® Gold Certified

My rig:

3x 1TB HDD

1x 120GB SSD

1x Disk Drive

Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.5GHz

Gigabyte GTX 980 4GB G1 Gaming

Gigabyte Z87X-OC mobo

16GB RAM

I believe you'll be fine with the 650 watt unit. The real concern is that you have enough power on your +12V rail(s). Those power supplies will both have enough power on the 12V rails.
