Trying to piece together a best price/performance gaming/streaming pc at 1080p for less than $900CAD (primarily games like Path of Exile right now; I don't really play anything with intensive graphics).

Here's what I've come up with so far (storage/OS not needed)

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($196.98 @ DirectCanada)

Motherboard: MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($113.98 @ DirectCanada)

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($84.98 @ Newegg Canada)

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card ($364.95 @ Vuugo)

Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.13 @ DirectCanada)

Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($70.84 @ DirectCanada)

Total: $890.86

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Thoughts? It is an AMD build but I have no problem switching out parts for intel/nvidia variants. Just trying to find the best price/performance.

Thanks =]

Nice, although the 8350 leaves no room for upradability. What if you went intel so you could get a better chip in future?

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

Looks perfectly fine to me but you will need an aftermarket cooler for that cpu.

Do you have an SSD since storage is not needed?

That AMD chip is much better for streaming since it can utilize those cores and make things easier.

Yeah but still, changing the mobo and CPU is hard.... The only thing he can bump up to is a 9590..... And what can I say-Its horrible

He can upgrade to intel later but the 8350 is a very good chip. Also when overclocked it gets things done

I guess you'll be needing a new (144hz) monitor too

I'd prefer this but it would bring me outside of my budget or lose the performance I need today going with something in the same price range.

Ah yes I will, thank you.

Yep I have an SSD ready to go.

I agree with that. If you can try and fit a Hyper 212 EVO in there.

I'm potentially thinking about eventually getting a liquid cooler in there for the cpu. I'll have to make sure it'll fit the case though.

The Hyper 212 EVO will be just as good as most AIO's and will be cheaper :)

Motherboard: ASRock B85 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($59.50 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card  ($405.05 @ Vuugo)
Total: $944.36

To all the people that say that you can't OC on non-Z series. You're wrong. Check out anandtech. Yes the mobo isn't anything special at all. But it does the job, and you can even overclock the CPU to a healthy 4.2-4.5 GHZ. Yes the 8350 will be a tiny little bit better for streamign. Other than that and some very specific areas the i5 just murders it.

The reason for the thermaltake PSU over an CX series. It's basically the same but the wattage is higher. Running a PSU with a little headroom is much healthier for it.

Actually, Get a CX series from corsair, it's much quieter.
