Crossfiring a 6770 with an R9 280?

Pyroven

I currentl have a GT640 in my PC (Borrowing from a friend). I am going to buy an R9 280. I have a spare HD6770, and I want to know whether I'll be able to put them in crossfire? From what I know, crossfire works with any two AMD cards, so surely it will work?

I want solid answers, please don't leave one-worded replies.

Thanks :D.

No, they cannot be put in cf and there'd be little point doing so since the 280 would outperform any 6770 cf.

Cf only works with gpus from the same family.

Check this compatibility chart - It doesn't work with ANY graphics card.

There are some that work in Dual graphics mode - but those are low-end chips with APUs.

TL;DR - No Crossfire with your cards.

You can only do CFX with cards from the same family AND the same memory amount.

I thought that'd be the case, I knew the 6770 wasn't much of a help but I figured I'd do it anyway if I could.

You can do with different memory amounts, your total (usable) amount will just be the amount of the lowest card.

No, the only cards that a 280 will Crossfire with are another 280, or a 280X, 7950, or 7970.
