hey guys! I need help, today i removed my stock air cooler from my Athlon x4 750k, because the fan died, so i bought another cooler, a artic alpine 64 pro rev 2 and installed it correctly (i suppose) and the idle temperatures are off the charts! (in bios)

idle temps with stock fan where 50 c

now they just keep rising, up ob till 83 c in which i turned off the pc for obvious reasons

I fear it may have been that the pre applied thermal paste was shiz, any other ideas and hoe to solve?

pre applied? you should clean and reapply thermal paste when you change coolers?

Double check the cooler mounting.

I mean, you changed the one thing that can affect cooling, it's probably that thing.

so i checked the cooler, gave a little wiggle to the heatsink and its firmly placed on top of the cpu, do i take it out and clean thermal paste and go out tomorrow to buy a tube and re apply?

I would keep a tube of thermal paste anyways in case you need it.

Depends. You could probably get some for 5 USD.

Here's some for 9 USD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA32J2CA3679&cm_re=thermal_paste-_-35-100-007-_-Product

correct me if i'm wrong but the lower purity the longer you have to let it sit for everything to evaporate

the cpu was completely dry when i re installed coolers, i made sure of that

something gotten into the alchohol or somehow remained on the CPU and contaminated the paste... again most unlikely, even more likely would be that the paste itself is contaminated

you could check if the paste has holes in it, that can cause problems

what are you using to clean it with like cloth or what. i tend to use paper towel for really nasty stuff. after that i use a fine microfiber cloth to get all small nooks and crannies. Reason i use microfiber because it leaves no fibers behind. any fibers left behind can cause cpu to heat up and not cool properly. also what program are you using. i think different cooler read cpu temps differently. When I apply thermal compound i put a rice grain on cpu and small amount on cpu block and spread it on the heatsink. this is very thin layer. this is called tinting and lessens the break in time!
