Is there a benefit to using an AMD CPU with my R9 290X?

Depends on what you have now and what you are planning on getting.

Why don't you look up some benchmarks of the 290X + the AMD CPU you want to get?

And just compare it with what you already have

Mantle is a API, Like DirectX, If the game support Mantle you should use it, It is more barebones than DirectX so it will give the GPU more breathing room to perform if the CPU is underpowered.

Nah, not really ...

In my opinion, AMD CPU's are just not as good for gaming as Intel.

If you wanted to switch to an AMD CPU, you would need a new MOBO too. I believe if you upgrade to an i5 or i7, you don't have to (please don't qoute me on this, I don't know a whole lot about motherboards and CPU's :P )

 

Just go for an i5 or i7 in your price range, if you don't have to change your mobo
