Which Ethernet cable?

I am looking at running an Ethernet cable to room because my wifi is trash. My router is in a concrete room in my basement in on one end of my house. I cannot move it because no where in my house has Ethernet. so I was going to run Ethernet to my room so that I can game and such. I was wondering what kind of internet cable I should get, cat5e, cat6, cat6a, or cat7.

Cat 5e/6 is the best value rn.

 

If you are going gigabit, Cat5e is fine.

 

Cat5 ->10/100

Cat5e-> 10/100/1000 (Gigabit)

Cat 6-> 10 Gigabit over short distance; gigabit over long distance

Cat6a-> 10 Gigabit over longer distance

You can use 5e just fine but go for 6 just cause they're cheap.

Difference is max recommended lenght and transfer speed.

In addition to what Aleksa said, I believe the later generations also gave increased shielding on the wires by twisting them.

What are your speeds?

I do not know I am trying to find out but it is defiantly under 100mbs. I think it is around 50 if there is a wired connection.

I just looked and it says it is supposed to be 52mbs
