Any indication on when the Moto G second gen will get Lollipop?

handymanshandle

I read an article about a week ago that said that Motorola was rolling out Lollipop to some devices. Though it didn't exactly indicate when or even if it's close to release for the Moto G Second gen (Specifically the unlocked US GSM variant).

So any word as to when it should get lollipop?

Could a mod please correct the little spelling error in the title.

little spelling error? a loli-pop is VERY inappropriate, and you should be ashamed for watching young virgins in anime being defiled! You disgust me!

FYI you can change your title in the full editor.

It is released for some, it depends on what carrier your with according to Motorola. here is the Motorola link to the info https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/country-selector/software-upgrade

Helpful yet doesn't exactly indicate any specific time. Aforementioned is my model (US GSM, Unlocked) and if relevant I got it from Amazon. It appears that really it could be tomorrow or next week or next month really anytime now. Blah.

My friend has the unlocked US GSM model and it received the Lollipop OTA weeks ago. Not sure what's up with yours.

Hmmm yeah...

(I plan on switching to another carrier but not right now, though it being unlocked I don't think it really matters)

It's out for the unlocked version

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/102639

But for any carrier-branded ones (Boost Mobile, Verizon, etc) you'll need to wait for them to pass through a build. That's how it works.

Thus is the downfall of Android updates

OP has the unlocked version.

@wcreek If your model is the XT1064, then try this. I did it on my friend's Moto G 2014 to force the update, and it worked perfectly. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/lollipop-moto-g-2014-xt1064-t2937361

Hmm...

Apparently a while back they pushed an update for the Google Play Store that added support for this (then-future) update. Maybe try that first?

Yeah my model is XT1064. Although when I do the steps mentioned on that thread you linked @EcoBoost but it seemed incomplete as to what you after you do step 7, I may have missed it because I didn't go to other pages but yeah. If relevant, I will add that the device is a.) Not rooted, therefore the bootloader is not unlocked and b.) I don't have a Micro SD at this time nor do I a micro usb to usb cable.

If you don't have a MicroUSB cable, then how are you charging your phone? Anyways, just visit the link on your phone then download the file. It will be saved to your Downloads in your internal storage. No SD card is required, nor does the Moto G have a slot for one...

The instructions are very clear. Follow them all the way through. There is no step after step 7 because you're done. Once you hit "Apply update from SD card" (aka your internal storage), then the update file will be installed. Once installed, reboot into all of that Lollipop glory.

You do not need to be rooted or bootloader unlocked as this is an official OTA update. After step 7 just use the volume keys to highlight "Reboot" in recovery and press power button to reboot into lollipop.

This is second generation Moto G, which does have a MicroSD slot

Oh, woops, my bad then. But either way the OP should still be able to just use the internal storage for the application of the update.

Don't be in a hurry Lollipop is still extremely beta even on it's 5.0.2 R1 release.

If you don't have a MicroUSB cable, then how are you charging your phone?

Motorola only gives you a MicroUSB charger that the cable does not detach from, and all my MicroUSBs had been destroyed by a naughty cat. Either way I'll try those steps again.

Though what happens is, when I follow those steps everything goes fine up until step 7, it shows me a file menu of the internal storage (Apps, Android, Downloads, etc.)
