Rummaging through my old HD, I found some MP3 32kbps/22kHz mono. Really, truly....sounds like shit.....

Then go find it encoded properly..

FLAC, not because it sounds better, because if it "does" sound better, I know I'm getting the "top shelf", plus I have entirely to much space for music anyways.

Aren't all lossless codec basically the same?

Yes, but it seems like FLAC is the most popular and easiest to acquire.

Those were the files back from the era of 56.6 modem. Couldn't care less about the outdated songs, just haven't erased it from my old HD backups.

On another note, downloaded a full album of 192kHz FLACs earlier, just for the kicks. 13 songs, 1.98GB. Now that's something.....

Wow my WAVs are only half a GB for 13 songs.

I use MP3 320 kbps if I can get it. I'm having trouble rebuilding some of my music collection after my harddrives died, especially a band called F.K.Ü. :c

Try getting DXD ones and/or multichannel high res files. They are much bigger. :)

I keep them how I bought them. If I got them as WAV, FLAC or WMA Lossless, they stay that way.

90% of the time it's probably gonna be FLAC, the only other one that really competes in terms of "market share" is ALAC and WAV.  ALAC is if you're in the Apple ecosystem and use iTunes alot, and WAV is you're just too lazy to make it 15% smaller.

WMA Lossless actually had a little bit of a headstart when it comes to high res digital distribution (Linn used to sell a lot of 24/96 and 24/88 WMA Lossless files), though FLAC had clearly overtaken it nowadays (thanks to its cross-platform compatibility).
