Do all the components including the psu heat up quicker if you install the psu fan facing upwards? What if there is no fan vent for the psu in the case, then there is no choice but to install it facing up... will this be harmful in the long run for the components? Which way is more ideal?

There isn't really a major difference in the direction you position your PSU. Some people like the fans facing down, while others have it facing upwards.

If there is a vent at the bottom of your case though, I would personally advise having the fan facing that direction for better airflow.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

There is no long term affect on the power supply by having it use the air from the internals of the case. There are many builds with the fan facing up which last just as long as the build with the facing down (if there is a intake).

If there is no vent in the case the fan should face up (towards the motherboard) so it can get some airflow.

A thing that should also be consider even if there is a vent on the bottom is where and on what is the case going to sit on as if it is on a lush carpet it may block the air flow of the psu.

Also, facing the PSU down will enable the CPU, and motherboard cables to reach further.

as they have all stated it doesnt make much of a difference.. personally i face it down as long as there is a vent.. if its one of corsairs gs series psu's ill usually face it up regardless to atleast take advantage of the leds lol
