Hi,

I am planning on building a PC some time in January, and i have been researching components and watch heaps of Linus videos.

This is my list of components from PCPartPicker.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Bloocookie1/saved/9Vsj4D

I am about to start my final year at school, and i am a digital art student. So my projects need lots of power to run. I will also be using this PC for gaming as well.

My current photography project consists of over 300 18MP raw images put together in photoshop, and all the systems i have tried on (even my teacher's) have failed quite miserably.

For one of them i had to leave my macbook pro retina running almost all day just for it to stack and get the pictures ready for processing in photoshop. Later in the year i have to be able to edit about 5, 30min(aprox.) videos for my IBDP group project. So i will mostly need to be able to (as seamlessly as possible) run Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects, plus gaming (not at the same time obviously). My teacher had suggested i look into a 4K monitor, and i was initially looking at the Asus PB287Q but the was a TN monitor.

P.S. I might change the keyboard and mouse to a different option before purchasing.

I have attached the file with the components as well.

We need to know what you're plans are for the computer.
Also, if you could make the lists in PCPartPicker and display them with the BBCode option it's much easier to look at. :)

Just at first glance, you could save quite a bit of money in some areas, and some parts should be swapped out for more reliable units like your PSU.

Great build for editing!

The Seagate 2TB 7200rpm is good hdd... but me and my friend bought new pc's with that hdd and had problems with 100% disk usage...Well I fixed mine but he is still having problems with freezing ect. So I don't know what to tell you.. be cerful

Thanks Dizmo,

Good job, and welcome to the forum :)

Another thing you might want to include is your budget.

I don't know much about the kind of work you're doing so I can't really suggest anything. It sounds like it might benefit from RAM, so 64gb on an X99 platform might be just what you're looking for?

@WoodenMarker might have a better idea for a build like this.

Not surprised about the terrible systems you're using at school--pretty common for tech like that to be outdated and improperly optimized. *cough* pairing $2500 Cintiqs with $500 systems

Can you link us to where you're actually shopping? Pricing is a big factor when it comes to proper recommendations.

Regarding the system:

There's no point getting such overkill aftermarket cooling if you're not oc'ing. That and you need a K series cpu to oc.

Dominator Platinums are a waste of money. Ram is ram and there are plenty of other similar kits that are immensely cheaper.

The psu is overkill unless you're planning on triple sli for some reason.

Why such a large case? Why a 4K display instead of a properly color calibrated one?

Can you advise me on another RAM at 32GB DDR3 that would be a better option?

I have just for the moment selected the V850 PSU suggest or the sake of it. but once i have decided on all my parts, then i will see for an appropriate PSU for the final wattage required.

I wanted this case for its aesthetic reason and that its big enough that if i want to upgrade something at a later date, i will for sure have enough space to do so.

I want a 4k display as my main monitor since i work with very high-def images and 4k video as well. and when i want to check on the colours, i can just drag it across onto my smaller 1080p display which (i think) has great colour accuracy.

Oh yeah i will be purchasing the parts from amazon, seeing that none of the PC stores here in singapore have the necessary parts to build a PC. And it is more expensive buy here even after getting a rough estimate price from amazon then converting from USD to SGD.

Huh.. it wasn't before.

Brand of ram doesn't really matter. Just get the cheapest kit that fits your needs. What other programs are you using?

The 780T is ridiculous large if you don't plan to fill it with lots of water cooling.

What 1080p display do you have?

Well for being safe I would go with WD HDD for example WD Green, I don't see a reason for going WD Black bec you have a 512GB SSD so that extra speed from the WD black is not necessary.

Oh I'm back so my friend fixed it. Truns out Win 8.1 was using the whole allocated virtual memory from the HDD so he went to options and changed the value and everything is fine now.

So yeah that is the fix, your choice now
