Need help choosing dac/amp - Q701's

Mr.Reese

They do have similiar outputpower though, so they might've put WM8740 (good DAC, btw) into it?

Weirdly enough E09K has USB plug on it

DId you have the chance to listen to the monoprice dac/amp?  How do they sound?

It uses the TI PCM1793 DAC (good?) from what I've heard/seen. Here are the internals: http://imgur.com/a/GxDWR#sFnAhBs

It's pretty much the same or better.

The same as my o2/odac. Although I like how the o2 looks more but the Monoprice is less than half the price and has more functionality so I went with that.

Very interesting, I'll definitely have a look at this.

meanwhile I told my LCD-2's "sorry buddy, HD800 replacing yo ass"  then got the 800s, loved em but couldn't justify the price and said "sorry buddy you gotta go too, i need that cash money"

Na I bought k712's instead for $265 and spend the rest of the money on a shit-ton of crap for my PC xD

I was surpised how alike the 800's 712's are, they sound super similar with a tiny bit more bass impact & not quite as smooth in the treble, but considering they're like 1/4th the price, no complaints at all xD

$300-500 right now is that sweet spot for mid-fi - high-fi, point of diminishing return after that

If I had money to throw around I probably would of kept the 800's and my schiit Lyr, but I mean.... for that same money I bought:

1 GTX 970, Corsair Air 540, Logitech G27 Racing wheel, AKG k712, Micca MB42 bookshelf speakers + lepai 2020 then I bought another 970 as well after I sold my 290x Lightning, still have some money left-over too from X-Mas lol

I'll get way more use out of the other stuff while having 712's versus just having 800's and an amp lol

I heard HD800 is amazing with lyr or lyr 2? HD800 and LCD-2 might be more of sound preference then A better than B

Eh, it honestly sounded very similar out of my onboard + phone + tablet as well, I think people vastly over-exaggerate audio in the high-end equipment :P

I mean there's a difference for sure, but if you have really good onboard audio or a really good source already without noise/ distortion etc, it doesn't really get all that much better.

I want to buy a magni modi for my 712's, but they sound so good out of onboard I haven't really bothered yet.   As long as I don't crank up the volume to 100% atleast, if I do, it has quite a bit of clipping :(

Usually I only listen at like 25-40% so it's not a big deal anyways.

At the very least, I have NWAvguy's statement about HD650 and HD600 needing proper amping :D
