Hi guys,

I am having trouble deciding in between two graphics cards, the EVGA G Force 980 super clocked  or the Asus Strix G Force 980.

Thanks for the help

My advice would be to get neither. Get a gtx 970. The 980 is overpriced through the roof and doesn't make any sense whatsoever for the price. It's 80% more expensive than a 970 and only 20% faster. You could get 2 970s in sli for not much more than a 980, and they would completely destroy it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Thank you! I completely missed that

Both are great, but personally I would get the EVGA card.

Just heard more good things about it.

No problem, I'm here to help ^^

By the way, if power consumption is not a problem for you at the moment you can buy two R9 290s for less than a single 980. The 290s perform about the same as 970s.

I lean to the EVGA 970

Am I the only one around here who really doesn't like pcpartpicker?
I also like Ubisoft and Origin/EA
Guess I'm just odd that way.

Just a note in case this is at all going into your decision, all cards have a chance at coil whine.

I'd go with the EVGA GTX 970, and with the money you saved, work on getting a second one. Not a big difference between a 980 and a 970, but two 970s wipe the floor with a 980. Especially if you can get a good OC in.

Why EVGA: Customer service.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

To be honest, I trust EVGA with a GPU more than I do Asus. Asus make some of the best motherboards, but I feel their GPU's lack quality sometimes. If I remember correctly the STRIX is like $30 more..

(I have never tested any of these parts, and I can therefore never guarantee no faults.)

PC and Peripherals:

Intel Core i3 4150 @3.5GHz - ASRock H97M Anniversary - Kingston Fury HyperX Black 8GB DDR3 @1866MHz - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 G1 Gaming 2GB GDDR5 - EVGA 500W 80+ Certified - WD Caviar Blue 1TB - WD Caviar Blue 160GB - Lian Li PC-50 - Linux Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS - Acer P221w 21.5" 1680x1050 60Hz - Kingston Fury HyperX Clouds - Razer Deathadder 3.5G - CM Storm Quickfire Rapid w/ Cherry MX Blues
