4k gaming

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Mainly Dota 2. Haha. I know, the gpu power needed here is low. But I do play other titles (in the future, mainly AAA title and therefore needing to buy GTX 970 or above).

Get a single 970 and add another later if you find your performance unsatisfactory.

Hi guys, would like to ask if I were to do 4k gaming, would 1 GTX 970 be enough? Or 2 GTX 970 would be the minimum. Or maybe even 2 GTX 970 would not even be enough. Please help on this.

Thank you!

A single 970 would be decent, you could probably get 30+ FPS in most games with medium or higher settings depending on the game, though two 970s would be ideal.

A single 970 can get about 60 FPS average in skyrim maxed out with high res textures at 4K, so you should be able to get by just fine.

(Crysis 3 is a different story, on very high settings, 16x af, 0x aa, 4K, you would probably only get around 20FPS average.)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

What's kind of games are you playing?

Have you taken a look at 970 4K gaming benchmarks?

1 970 will be enough as long as you don't plan on playing the newest AAA titles maxed out (medium-high without AA should get you 60fps in the newer titles). I personally play my favorite games comfortably with a R9 270 at 4k however I do plan on upgrading very soon since it can't keep up with newer/AAA games (I play a lot of racing titles and whatnot).

That being said, I recommend a 290x over a 970 for 4k gaming.

Thank you! When you mentioned right performance in most games, you meant high / highest setting and yet decent fps right? :P

Yeah, lots of my friends actually recommend me the 290x. But ... I kind of like nvidia a bit more than others. Nothing wrong with AMD. Just a personal liking I guess (I know I'm stupid to like brand/looks before performance).

I suggest going through this review and seeing what games you play, then checking the 970 vs 970 SLI numbers.

Games like Dota, LoL, Diablo III etc use next to nothing.
