Hi,

I put this in graphics since it is mostly a graphics question, but there are some other things.

I was thinking of building a new system sometime soon. The main component I want to upgrade is my graphics card.
First, I was wondering if there was a reason to. I am getting to where not everything runs on ultra with good frame rates, and I am beginning to miss it.
I play Assassin's Creed (all), Far Cry (3, soon 4), Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Fifa, Civilization, Skyrim, some Battlefield

My current build has:
Intel i5-3570k
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 GHz
16 GB RAM
ASUS ATX mobo that I am pretty sure is Z77, but was not a high-end gaming one
OCZ 750W PSU

I am thinking about getting:
r9 295x2 or GTX 980 (as of now, the amd one is ~$750 and nvidia is ~$600)
i5-4690k
16 GB RAM
some z97 mobo (recommendations welcome)
unsure of PSU (recommendations welcome)

There is also the possibility of an X99 motherboard with an i7, but so far, it does not seem worthwhile to me to get the x99 motherboards. If there is a good reason for x99, please share.
Also, I have a 2560x1080 @60Hz monitor that I will be using, but I do not want to rule out 4k gaming for the future.

Some questions I have:
which of those GPUs is better to get? it seems like the 295x2 is more powerful, but is that only for higher resolutions? with the price drop of the 295x2, it is now within my price range but if it is the same as the 980, I might as well go with the cheaper one.
would my 3570k cpu (or the 4690k) cause a bottleneck with the 295x2 or gtx 980? if so, any suggestions?
related to the previous question, could I get away with just upgrading my gpu? I want a new motherboard for more SATA3 ports, but I could wait on that to upgrade to x99 when it gets cheaper if I do not need to upgrade cpu.

Thank you

Honestly with what you have just buy a new gpu you dont need to buy another I5 save your money and buy a gpu now and a little while down the road buy a I7.

Has Anyone Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?

You've got to be kidding me. I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It's just common sense.

The 295x2 easily performs better than the 980 regardless of resolution. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_980_sli_review,13.html

The 4690k isn't much of an upgrade over your current cpu. The only thing I see that really needs an upgrade is your graphics card. I'd suggest going with a 290/970 and saving any extra money for future upgrades and get a ssd if you don't already have one.

I'm moving the thread to New Builds and Planning.

I would say just get the 980 and you are fine. Stay away from SLI or CF if you can. Frametiming is still a big issue and can even make your experience worse, compared to a single gpu solution. The 4G of VRAM on the 980 are plenty for almost all AAA games on 2k or even 4k.

Also your cpu is fine for now and you will not get any siginificant improvements by upgrading to a newer architecture and or more cores. The psu is also fine, as your rig will not consume more than 350W.

Based on new/upcoming AAA games, do you think that I even need to upgrade?

I know that the gtx 980 would lead to a big improvement, but I do not think a 60 fps to 100 fps change (arbitrary numbers) is something I would notice, and I think I am getting close to 60 with at least medium/high settings right now.
