If you really think you need it, get Norton. Out of all the antivirus programs I've used before it seemed to be the most extensive and protective.

None. Ever since Windows Vista introduced the whole "Are you sure you want to allow [whatever] to make changes to your computer?" thing, it's impossible to get a full-on virus unless there's a zero-day exploit happening that Microsoft has yet to patch (or you turned off this EXTREMELY important feature), or you willingly clicked yes to a virus. Windows Defender is ample, and uses the lowest amount of computer resources (CPU/Memory, etc), and so is the best. What you really need to worry about is bloatware, spyware, tracking cookies, etc. The kind of stuff Malwarebytes will help with, and that's free.

TLDR: so long as you don't click YES to a virus, the only way of getting a virus (zero-day exploit etc) will not be prevented by any of those anti-viruses.

I always used Avast, Norton uses too many resources to run it, Avast doesn't really use anything, never tried Bitdefender so can't say anything on that.

I smell a troll.

Go for avast, I've used it for years and have had no problems with it.

I've found that norton slows your computer down quite a bit and hardly does shit to protect it.

Never tried bitdefender.

It scans every file you download for malicious software, scans sites for potential threats, I don't see how it could be any less protective.

My previous computer ran fine with Norton installed, it saved me from viruses and trojans multiple times.

Why are there itiots on this forum, how does that happen, I though only intellectuals were on this forum. Clearly you have broken that rule.

The best anti-virus, is not being stupid, and that's not hard.

^ This,

plus AVG 2015 Free is great. I wouldn't recommend any of the three you listed in the original post.

Can't even spell "idiot" correctly...

Beside that point, Norton is CPU intensive, but if you have 8 cores, like the OP, I don't see that being a problem.

Which is why its sucks, AVGT and Avast are better as they are less resource intensive and update more often. They also keep more up to date while not skipping over entire folders during scans like Norton does.

I'm just saying, from personal experience, Norton is thorough and protective.

http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/antivirus-software-avg-vs-norton.html

Norton performed better than AVG in 4 out of the 5. That being said, Bitdefender is better there. But I've never used it, so I can't say from personal preference.

Another thing, like the others said above, I don't even use an antivirus program anymore. MSE paired with Malwarebytes is perfectly fine and less resource intensive than any antivirus program.

I had nothing but good experiences with kaspersky.    I have been installing it in all the PCs I give support to, and I have not had a single virus problem since 5 years ago.   Before I used to be call for dealing with 2 or 3 infections every week, which on second thought is actually bad for business... :P

Mystery is the source of all true science.
