So, everybody thinks that 8.1 is a flop, and it is. It's not as bad as vista, but still a tablet os on a pc.

Windows 7 was truly amazing.

Which one would you choose for a new rig and why?

Nope, i love it.

8.1 is better in every way.

Everyone saying 8.1 was a flop = people with learning difficulties.

Or too lazy to change the only thing that is different, the start.

Sure Metro wasn' what the desktop enthusiasts wanted, but Windows 8.1 has the performance. It may have been a flop in the hardcore business aspect though, however, businesses only upgrade when they absolutely need to.

windows 8 was iffy, windows 8.1 is pretty good, and windows 10 is the best of both windows 7 and 8.1. I like windows 8.1 more than windows 7.

8.1 is fantastic, its just metro... sorry "modern UI" that's annoying but you don't have to use it (mostly). Its just the typical trend of people not wanting to learn new things (or a lot of the time not even trying them) who complain, there are a few who genuinely don't like it and that's fair enough but I do think its a minority.

Yeah, you can always get a program like start 8 that makes windows 8+ function more like 7(Start menu, removes the use of Metro somewhat), you can set a key bind though for if you want to access Metro.

I don't find any real use in start menu orther than search bar that was just moved to another place, so I don't get what all the fuss is about.

TBH I don't even want a start button any more, I pin programs I use to the taskbar and the right click menu has everything else I need. My only gripe ATM is that the Bluetooth show/pair devices link in the notification area goes to a metro screen which I find fairly jarring, I know you can go through the CP for a traditional screen but that's just as annoying because of the extra navigation involved, normally it wouldn't be an issue because you don't have to pair things often but I've been working on a Bluetooth device lately so I'm regularly pairing/unpairing prototypes :(

Edit: ZetZet beat me to it lol :)

Windows 7, to me, is more user friendly than Windows 8 but Windows 8 has a ton of handy new features. Also, I enjoy the ability to download apps and I like the fact that Windows has gotten into the tablet market. This is why I think Windows 10 is going to be amazing because it will be the best of both worlds: user friendly and full of features.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Eh, ive had problems with windows 8.1 corrupting my files in the past so i just stick with 7, tried out the windows 10 preview and from what i saw it looked very promising, once that gets stable i will be using that as my daily driver.
