What I have learned when I asked if I could have my fan speed at 100% for long period of time.

They said that it will shorten life time but most likely not break.

I would say that 60-70% while gaming is common.

Just done have it like that when you are only using web browser or something.

So no it would probably not break and to me it looks fine 70% is not that high. But the 970 should most likely not need it since it and 980 is so strong and power efficient.

One thing is you won't be able to use a Graphic card more than 5 years. I'm running my EVGA GTX 560 ti overclocked and 90% or 100% fan speed for 2 years now and it works perfect.

Considering power efficiency of maxwell architecture in 970, you may not need that much of fan speed

I used to run both of my cards @ 100%, now I put them around 80-85 as my cards can barley get to 65 degrees. Most people upgrade before the card has a chance to die.
