As the title states I'm wondering which to buy. Just to make sure which one would be the best to get as right now there's a deal where I can get both for the same price about $400.00

I want to know which one should I get ?

Asus Strix 970 or MSI Twin Frozr 780TI

the 970 because it's more energy efficient and also has 4GB of VRAM instead of 3...performance wise they are similar with a slight edge to the 780ti but the 970 if you can overclock it a fair bit will close the gap in most cases.

The 780ti for 1080p gaming, But if you want to go higher than that id recommend the 970 becouse of the 4gb of Vram.

@Katsu-K1L @Humbug @i_build_nanosuits @Jerakl the main usage for the graphic card would be for content creation, 3D Rendering and CNC programs so which would you guys choose ?

Get the Gigabyte non-g1 or the MSI Gaming 4g for a lower price than the Asus strix, and you have yourself a clear win by the 970.

If you INSIST on getting the strix, for whichever weird reason... get the 970 anyway. Less power consumption and heat output. It'll pay itself over time, and will ease up SLI (if supported).

the 780ti has more raw compute performance so in that case the 780ti would be a better choice, hands down.

As nano suits said the 780ti has more raw power then the 970.

I also live in Edmonton :P

If you need it for compute performance defos take the 780ti

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

@Jerakl Yeah I realized that as well but I might just swing to the 970 and maybe later on go SLI

Off topic: Man memory express has some crappy sales this year and watch edmonton is going to be a crap feat on Boxing Day, everyone be crashing lol

Yeah, I keep my eye out for sales on anything I may want. Not much so far.

970 is equivalent to a 780 on stock speeds I think.

The 780 ti is the more powerful card and would probably beat the 970 handily at just about every game out there at 1080p. It would also beat it at most games at higher resolutions as well despite the 1gb less of VRAM.

Temperature wise its a wash, both of the cards you listed keep the GPU more than adequately cool with room to spare. I guess if you win the silicon lottery you could overclock the shit out of the 970 to approach the performance of the 780ti, but then again you could do the same to the 780ti and it would still beat the 970.

The only downside to the 780ti is its being discontinued so it might be harder to get one for SLI in the future. Then again you could probably find a used one easily down the road. Oh and the 970 draws less power, so I guess theres that(of course if you OC it will probably draw a lot more power anyway).

In terms of raw compute-performance the GTX 780 Ti does beat the GTX 970 due to it having 2880 CUDA cores versus the GTX 970 and its 1664 CUDA cores.

But it's worth noting that this isn't neccesarily the case in other applications. In games the GTX 970 can without doubt hold its own if overclocked.  The GTX 780 Ti is terribly inefficient, and in cases where compute-performance isn't key, the GTX 970 often does equally as well due to the efficient architecture.

GPU: 2x MSi GTX 970 GAMING G4

MB:   ASUS Z97-AR
