Didn't OC them yet. just slapped in the 2nd one and ran 3d mark! I am very happy with the results!

What about 3 980s for a single 4K monitor, eh?

the monitor is the final piece to this puzzle. aiming for a 1440p ms1 27" with G Sync

gonna try BF4, Titanfall, and DA I now befreo dinner!

And that's with a locked Xeon ? fantastic. What clocks are you getting out of your 290s? and which models did you get ?

Nono, not my system. It was posted in my local forum, he used the same proc as OP and clocked at the same speed. Both 290s Tri-X was clocked at 1170mhz. I think 970 can get 25k-26k in gpu score when overclock to 1.4ghz-1.5ghz.

A single 980 is still a very good choice.

It has enough power for 1440p and if you decide buy another for sli later, you will gain on average more performance than you would with a third 970.

I know I'm trying to wait for the next Nvidia cards cause my 670 is decent but it's a blower style and so loud but I'm not playing any graphically intensive games other than dragon age inquisition and waiting to buy a new card for Witcher 3
