So I am going to buy a pc for my dad since he is in need of an upgrade from an old dell. While looking at this pc in particular and other desktops it seems weird to me that mostly all the reviews are 4 or 5 Stars and most of the review are quite similar. Anyone else have this happen to them or are unpleased? Every time I go to bestbuy I feel as if they hide information about specs and quality. At the counter when you checkout they have asked me three times repeatedly if I wanted to join there rewards program and I denied. Similarly when I stopped by tigerdirect to check out what gaming pc that they have and after the employee gave me the rundown of all of them I said "I think I am going to build my own pc"(which I already have), he says "ohh" and walks away. Maybe this is just me but has anyone else had expierences like that.

nope but when you start talking about building your own pc most people have no idea and thus cant give you any more information than what they can read on the box. that said, employees today are not required to know their product and how it functions. they are there to put product on the shelves and to occasionally help a customer find a product. thats why if you need help with a product or find out more information you need to do research and watch more ltt to know the products your are working with.

Thats why I always google the part number/name that I want information on and view a few hundred user reviews on it. And like Jaybird stated these stores dont actually train their people or require them to know anything beyond how to kiss ass. Which in my opinion kissing ass isnt a good way to do business.

its either a Intel® Celeron® Processor N2840 or a Intel® Celeron® Processor J1800. Also that because the honestly dont know anything about computers besides whats on the price tag

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

For that budget, Why not look at getting something like an Intel NUC? You could remove a lot of clutter on a desk and still do a reasonable amount of upgrades (Ram/HDD) for its form factor.

yes, I am knowledgeable about pc's but it's funny since many employees that work at electronic retail stores like this aren't at the least bit knowledgeable about computers

if they where knowledgeable they would have to pay them more.

I personally build your own SFF computer or get a NUC. That SFF Dell uses proprietary parts making repairs difficult to find(or upgrade), and it just isn't that good of a computer(the specs will make it good for only a year).

Also I like how BestBuy doesn't list the CPU model number* or core count. One of the many reasons why I hate that place.

Edit: Found the model number. Its in the "Features" list instead of the specs list(because that totally makes sense). Its the Celron J1800, so its going to be pretty slow for a desktop

Build him a Athlon 5350 machine. It'll cost you around $50 more than that but will be packing all quality hardware including a 128 GB SSD. The machine will be so fast his head would spin.

sorry already got a build for it but thanks :)
