OK, so here is a parts list of a super budget pc with ability to add gpu at a later date. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fXWzGX

My question is does this H81 mobo need a bios update prior to using this particular chip?

So, far i've found this :http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=1529&CategoryID=1&MenuID=172&LanID=0

Supports New 4th & 4th gen Intel® Core™ family, Pentium, Celeron series processors in LGA1150 socket

To describe all I've heard about ECS: Failure

Their boards fail really quick. Get the MSI H81-P33 instead, much better

Yes it will, the G3258 is a refresh CPU. Only newer H81 boards don't need an update [like the Gigabyte H81M-S2H]

Also, get a Gigabyte or ASUS board

G3258 is not Haswell-refresh.

The 3258 is not listed as a supported CPU

The G3258 works just fine but oc'ing it is not officially supported by the board.

It isn't. There are plenty of articles that incorrectly list it among refresh cpus but plenty that don't either.

An accurate list for example: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7963/the-intel-haswell-refresh-review-core-i7-4790-i5-4690-and-i3-4360-tested/2
