How often do you use an optical drive?

PowerPigeon

I have one in my TJ07 just for aesthetic reasons. I use it now and again but not very often. it is nice to have instead of having to plug my external one in. Or grabbing my macbook and then stream the data across.

For the odd occasion I end up with a disc version of a game instead of a Steam/Origin/Uplay e-Copy, and to install my Drivers / OS

Only used it once for installing windows 8.1. I have an h440 and the optical drive thing kinda scared me at first, but you do realize how little you ever use it. Everything can just be downloaded from the internet.

Is that a computer or a jet engine? Why not both?

Very very rarely. Last time was in September when I came across a piece of software a client wanted installed that we did not have digitally available.

Edit: I play the Playstation once in a while, does that count?

Optical drives are not used very often, but some people may find some software on a disk for an old gadget that they may have. You can always purchase an external USB disk drive for when you may need it, but other than some really old stuff, you can install from a USB or download it online.

I used it to install my OS, and then to install motherboard drivers for ethernet access. Currently debating on if I want to rip that horrifying Asus optical drive out of the front of my computer because looking at it makes me sick.

Now that I think of it, I haven't used mine in a long, long time. I do still have my share of games that I would install off of discs. And I do prefer using my PC to watch DVDs.

But it's not like I watch movies on a regular basis nor do I install/uninstall those few games I only have on discs frequently.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.
