The Nexus 4 is on the list of Lollipop devices... but I have yet to see the update.

I know I can install it manually, but I prefer the over the air update simply because it's easier.

Has google even released the OTA update for the Nexus 4 yet? If not how long does this usually take?

carrier can hold back a nexus upgrade?

Did you get it on contract. My sister already got 5 on her unlocked Nexus 4.

Do this, I know it is German, but you can just tell from watching what to do:

Intel 4790k | Asus Z97 Maximus VII Impact | Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16 GB 1866Mhz | Asus Strix GTX 980 | CoolerMaster G550 |Samsung Evo 250GB | Synology DS215j (NAS) | Logitech G502 |

the fast forwarding part is hard to get. is he clearing all data on google apps?

he kills google services framework and then deletes all the data. Then he rechecks for updates. (Rinse and) repeat as often as needed  :)

It can take a little bit to get an OTA, but given that 5.0.1 is currently rolling out you should have gotten 5.0 by now. As a warning, some people have reported some issues with the Nexus 4 after the OTA, so you might want to google those issues for a bit. IF you want to be safe, just flash the factory image from Google. I did that on my Nexus 5 and had no problems.

what do i need to flash it? I'm not into tinkering with firmware or boot loaders or anything like that. I just want extremely simple step by step instructions that a child can do. Easy is better for, don't want any chance of messing up.

My wife and I both have Nexus 4's. She got the 5.0.0 update about 3 weeks ago and also just received the 5.0.1 update just the other day. Meanwhile I still haven't received the 5.0.0 update yet. We're both on the same carrier so I know that's not the hold up. If I don't get it in another week, I'll just side load it manually.

Google has a set of instructions as well as all the images available here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Try to see if you can get the OTA and if it works for you, just stay on that. If that seems buggy, try flashing the stock images from Google. There is no guarantee that things will be buggy with the OTA (the main compalint I hear is with battery life tanking after the upgrade) but just know some users have reported some issues. Best of luck!

Haha, it's not that bad. I'll give you my simplified instructions if you want:

1. Download fastboot from this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0MKgCbUM0itVVFWRC02Q0VBQnc/view . That tool will install all the drivers you need as well as fastboot on your pc. (credit to Snoop05 from the XDA forums)

2. Then  download the image for your nexus 4 from the google dev page and unzip it in your preferred location

3. Turn off your phone, and then turn it on while holding volume down. This will put you into bootloader mode.

4. Open the commandprompt in windows (search for cmd and click that)

5. type in the command prompt : fastboot oem unlock (this WILL delete all of your personal data, apps, etc)

6. Then run the flash all script in the unzipped system image you downloaded earlier and you're done! Reinstall all your apps and connect to all your services once youre up and running

Or wait for the OTA, it will come eventually :P

I apologize, I am not familiar with Macs. There is guides out there if you search, but I am not qualified to speak on the subject. If you don't feel like doing that, just wait for the OTA, it's probably safer. There is a lot of literature on how to sideload nexus updates though, so if you're feeling adventurous, just do a quick google search.
