HELP! Windows Time Keeps Changing

Go to solution Solved by Caleb10E,

I got it fixed. Since I'm no longer dual-booting, I removed the RealTimeIsUniversal value from the Registry Editor completely, and I think that did the trick.

My desktop PC keeps changing the system time back by 7 hours, so at noon it will show 5am. I have to synchronize the time constantly because it doesn't just happen when I restart the computer, it randomly happens when I'm using the computer.

I used to dual-boot (only running Windows currently) and have done the RealTimeIsUniversal fix in regedit, but that doesn't work (with either a 0 or 1 value). The BIOS time also remains correct, no matter what happens, making me think it's not a CMOS battery issue.

I'm running on Windows 8, but I recently upgraded from 7 and it has been doing this same thing in both versions.

Help would be much appreciated!

Still, try removing the CMOS battery and see if the issue is fixed.

Okay, follow my instructions.

Click on your time and date in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop

2:Click "Change date and time settings"

3: A new window should appear, near the top of the new window it should say "Date and Time", "Additional Clocks", and "Internet Time" Click on the tab that says "Internet Time"

4: Click change settings.

5: Uncheck the box that says "Synchronize with a Internet Time Server".

6:Click "OK"

7:Click Apply (if it gives you the option if not proceed to step 8)

8: Go back to the "Date and Time" tab

9: Reconfigure your time, date, and timezone.

10:Click "Apply" (If it doesn't give you the option then proceed to step 11)

if your clock is resetting or showing the wrong time when you cold boot it means your cmos battery needs replacing as its just about flat.

it will first show the wrong time then eventually will reset back to the default when the battery finally dies. this will also reset any overclocks at this point.

so get down to best buy/cosco and buy a replacement. its a simple job of pulling the old 1 out and putting the new in. (again your overclock will be wiped if you have 1 running)

1 other tip, you can buy the cheap multi pack and it will cost you $3/£1.50. but you will be replacing it in 6 months. or you can risk a decent branded 1 that may last 5 years but may also only last as long as the cheap muti buy 1s for $5/£3 each.

He said that only windows time was messed up, but the time in the BIOS was correct.

Windows checks the time from their server, and if you're in the wrong time zone or something, everything it checks it will change it.

Though it's nice to see that your fixed it
