Is this setup any good?

First of all, thank you for visiting this post.

Cpu: Intel core I7 4790K

Cpu cooler: Corsair H100i

Graphics card: Sapphire r9 290x Tri-x 4GB

Motherboard: Asus Maximus ranger VII

Ram: Corsair vengeance pro 2400-16 GB

Case: (Still looking for one with a nice large window, black coloured, supports watercooling and good cablemanagment for about 80-140 dollars. Any suggestions??)

Now I didn't include storage and a power supply, because I already have these components.

My questions are:

-Is this computer good enough for rendering and editing in sony vegas 12? And for rendering in C4D?

-How long will this computer last?

Yes, it's very good. The only thing to consider is going to a 5820k on X99, but thats only if faster render times are EXTREMELY important to you (i.e. it's a job, and you can afford to do it).

What PSU do you have btw?

I'd recommend the Phanteks Enthoo Pro, Fractal Define R4/R5, Corsair 750D

I'd also go with a cheaper motherboard, and possibly a GTX970.

My psu is a Cooler master 750 GX (if I remember correctly)

Is a 5820k a lot faster? And is it still good for gaming?

A 5820k is just as fast as a 4790k in gaming (assuming you can reach the same clockspeeds on the 5820k); it's just in rendering that the 5820k is faster since it's 6 cores 12 threads vs. 4 cores 8 threads.

For gaming, it's not worth the extra $300-400USD (probably a larger difference wherever you are), but for rendering it is worth it if you render for a living and faster render times = more money.

Why not go with a 970 instead of the 290X?

I might do that, thanks for your tip!

Why not go with a 970 instead of the 290X?

The only real differences is that the 970 is newer and more energy efficient.

Personally i would choose the R9 290x before the 970, Becouse adding more 290x's will be even cheaper soon when they become outdated.

Very good build, and I'd recommend the Fractal Design Define R4 case. Gorgeous, though I'm not 100% sure it has a windowed version...

The money you save by going with a 290x is negated by the need for a larger psu and a significantly higher power draw.

Get a cheaper motherboard.

Try to get a GTX 970.

NZXT H440 for the case.

What PSU do you already have?

Where are you from (Netherlands I suppose)? Also, link us to the store that you are buying the parts from ;)

It does.

An 850w psu generally isn't a whole lot more than a 600w or 750w.

Well, a 5820k will drive the price up quite a bit and is really only worthwhile if you render for your job.

Yes, I am basicely buying a new pc because I want to use it for rendering. But well if I get a 5820k with a x99 motherboard it would be 80 euros more....dammit :P
