I have read multiple times that optical is better, because it doesnt have acceleration. But as for me, I have a G502 (optical) and it performs better than my previous old laser G500 :)

Optical is sooo much better IMO.

Optical. If you're in the neighbourhood for a new mouse I highly recommend the Logitech G502.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I like my G500 too much to switch to optical.

Honestly there isn't too much of a difference. I use a lazer mouse(Gigabyte Aivia M8600) and haven't experienced any acceleration or height sensitivity issues. It is kind of picky about the surface being used, but that's a problem with most mice. Personally I would get a mouse with the features you need because at this point there isn't much of a difference between the two.

LIES.

I went from using a mouse with a decent laser sensor to a G502 and instantly noticed a difference.

First up we need to define what "optical" and "laser" even is, those terms dont exist on a technical level, because technically all are optical and atm there are 3 Methods of motion sensing with currently "Gaming Grade Sensors".

I wont expand further here since this question is coming up on the Internet  every 3 hours or so, just check out the Sensor List on OCN, the headlines above each tech should make it self explanatory how it works.

Also when people talk about "Laser is bad" for gaming it should be noted that it isnt the Illumination method itself that is causing the problems but rather the specific architecture or platform used,

A9500 and its Sidekicks for example exhibit a relatively high cpi variance which is percieved by the user as acceleration, note that this Variance exists in any optical navigation system altough on a much smaller scale.

That Dude should read up some stuff before spouting BS on Youtube, CPI ≠ Accuracy just to name one thing.

Optical is better. Only reason I use laser is because I like having dem buttons on my mouse and I can't justify having 2 mice.

This is why that video should have been taken down by now. It was wrong when it was made and it's even more wrong now, yet it's still being posted and misinforming people.
