Hey guys,

So this Christmas is going to be the first one that me and my girlfriend spend together, and I have a problem on what I'm going to do for the Christmas dinner part. So she invited me to her house for a family dinner, and being all excited as I was I immediately said yes without asking my parents. I went back home and when I got home I asked my mom if I could spend Christmas dinner at her house and she got really upset at me for even thinking of missing dinner with my own family. Now I'm stuck. My girlfriend's sisters all have their boyfriends over for the dinner while I might not even be allowed to go. This is also special for her because it's the first time she's brought a boy to one of these events. Personally, I'd really like to miss out of my own dinner and go to her place instead, but my parents are saying that I can't go or else I'll be ruining it for our own family. No other dates for the dinner work either- I already tried that. I haven't told her that I might not be able to go yet because I feel like maybe somehow I can convince them that I can go.

This might not be the best place for this kind of advice but,

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

No.

Spend your time with your family, not her's. I agree with your parents, the holidays are the time for the people who truly love you. I'm not saying your girlfriend doesn't love you, but unlike your parents, she can just dump you and leave. You will regret not spending the time with your family, trust me.

Either way someone's going to be upset with me... It's just a matter of which one is worse.

At 16 I'd say it's a little iffy, you're still a kid. If you were 18 it'd be a little different.

Just do the famjam thing. If she's any kind of decent girlfriend she'll understand.

Sure it'll suck since her sisters have their bf's there, but I'd imagine they're older, no?

Can't you head over there later on? I'm sure she'd appreciate you showing up in general, doesn't have to be for the dinner.

Her sisters and their bf's are older, but 16 for them is usually the milestone year to do this kind of stuff. I would possibly be able to show up later, but she lives 45 minutes away from me so it would be tough, even though I have my own car. I guess I could try to convince my parents to have our family dinner on christmas eve, then go out of christmas day....

Do the right thing and have dinner with your immediate family. If your girlfriend cannot understand, then you must not have dated a very bright one.

Well, you can have dinners with your family every time you want, but not really with your girlfriends family... You've been having Christmas dinner with your family for the last 15 years (probably), and you want to skip one and they get angry O.o Seriously.... Just say that to them :D It also depends how long have you two been together? Is it 2 months or 11 months O.o

P.S. Don't listen to my family advices, since my family is disfunctional, and it has been for years and years, so they're most likely not good for "normal" families... -_-
