Building a PC for everyday use

Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

Lose the GPU and go with an H81 board instead. The integrated GPU is fine for most everyday tasks.

I'd also go with WD Blues as Blacks aren't noticeably faster to warrant the large price difference.

The Corsair RM550w is also quite expensive for what it is (for example, you can get an EVGA G2 750w psu--which is far better for 120 vs. the RM550 which is 115 http://www.microspot.ch/msp/de/pc-komponenten/pc-zubehoer/evga-supernova-750-g2-80-plus-0000858456)

Hello

I'm going to build a new PC for my father in the next few days. He doesn't need a lot of CPU or GPU power but the security of his files is very important to him.The PC will mainly be used for working on documents and mails, but also editing pictures from time to time. I have some knowledge about building PCs but I haven't built a whole PC yet.

Budget: 800-1000$

Location: Switzerland

My preferred websites for buying parts are https://digitec.ch and http://microspot.ch

I've selected the following parts for him:

Mainboard: AsRock H97M Pro4 mATX

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460

GPU: Asus GT 730

RAM: 2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600

Power Supply: Corsair RM550 80+ Gold

SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB

HDD: 2x WD Black 1TB

Case: Fractal ARC Mini R2

OS: Windows 8.1

The graphics card probably isn't necessary but I still got it from another PC.

I would install the OS on the SSD and run both HDDs in a RAID 1.

Please let me know, if those parts are compatible or if you would change something.  :)

Thank you for your answer, but as said I still have the graphics card laying around at home and could use it since it isn't used anywhere at the moment. Then I would change to a H81. Are the Blues still fast enough to be used in a RAID 1 configuration?

A Corasir CX500 power supply would be a better option, and some cheaper RAM.....and like @djdwosk97 said, WD Blues is a better choice. And the 850 PRO is overkill also, unless you really want that extra speed that you will not even notice. Nice case :)
