So I recently started noticing horrible lag in-games. Decided to check my temps and my CPU was at 75C. When my CPU hits 75C it sets the multiplier from 19.5 to 7. Pretty sure CPUs are supposed to run like 30-50.

I opened my case, removed dust and while idle, temps were 45, slowly rising. Now the temps are 45-60 at idle. I opened a youtube video and the temps went to 75.

Sorry if this thread is messy or unclear, but my temps aren't right and I need help. I think its the thermal paste but I have no idea really.

My CPU: AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core Processor

New aftermarket cooler and new thermal paste/grease. Also maybe a new case (if you have something with bad cable management, poor cooling / air throughput, PSU on top).

Try replacing the thermal paste with MX-4 and remount the cooler.

Make sure you clean all the old thermal paste off using alcohol from the CPU and the cooler.

If you can afford it, upgrade to a 212 evo cooler, it is much better.

Thanks for your help guys. I already have a cooler master cooler, it has to be the thermal for sure.

Would anyone mind taking a look if I post a picture of the current thermal paste? Looks bad to me.

Sure, go ahead. We can have a look at this bad body for ya.

Take a picture of the paste on both the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

I replaced it and the problem is still there. I'm clueless now.

What did you replace it with? And are you certain your heatsink has proper contact with your IHS?

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

The way its attached is pretty simple, I'm more than certain you cant even put it on wrong.

Yes, but while unlikely, it's possible that your heatsink is not flush with the IHS.

I turned the heatsink the otherway and tried its on perfectly, still occurs.

41 temp at system startup, 2 seconds later its 49. I start up chrome and start a stream on source quality.

Get HWmonitor running and check your PSU voltage outputs. If the CPU is sick it might be pulling too much or too little. Or the PSU is sick and not giving it enough juice. Worth a check to rule it out.
