why do you expect everyone to know every computer program?

I don't think that's the issue. The reason things like this are frustrating is because many people won't be rational about things like that because they perceive a computer as a magic box. Pretty sure if you pulled up command prompt and just typed away, people like I mentioned would think you're hacking the government.

I've always had the opinion that people who have lived with computers all their lives, those born in the age after the invention of them, possess a sort of intuition that allows them to think more rationally about digital things. That would be why me or someone else who has used a computer for the majority of their life is able to work through issues and understand the concepts better than my grandmother is. With people who are still learning computers (grandparents, etc), they need to have a genuine interest to want to work to understand. My grandmother uses her computer for word processing and email, she doesn't want/need to learn anything else, which is why she asks me for help. The minister at her church however, genuinely wants and needs to understand new concepts for presentations during service and other things.

Tl;dr: Understanding technology all comes down to having a genuine interest in learning more about it, in my opinion.
