Im upgrading my current CPU (amd phenom ii x4 965 ) but im not sure if its better to get a higher clocked quad core, or a slower six core. I will only be gaming and using it for general use. I'm staying AMD currently because of my budget to upgrade so changing to intel isn't possible currently, The six core im looking at is clocked at 3.50Ghz where as the Quad is at 4.20Ghz.

Six core - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/processors/amdpiledriverfx/fd6300wmhkbox.html

Quad core - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/processors/amdpiledriverfx/fd4350frhkbox.html

So is a six core better than a quad even if it is clocked significantly slower?

Cheers!

An FX6300 is the better choice of the two.

FX 6300 all the way, unless the FX 8320 is somewhat cheaper.
