Hey guys, quick question that I already for the most part am pretty sure works. I wanted to get 16GB of RAM as apart of the upgrade path I plan for my PC. However I currently have 1600Mhz 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM and I was wondering (since I have no other use for it) could I just put it in the secondary dual-channel and put the 16GB in the primary?

Why not get another 2x4GB kit of vengeance? Maybe you can even find them used... Why even get more? For gaming you dont really need more than 8GB.

Because I don't only do gaming and want room for 32GB in the future if my work load ever increases.

Just make sure they use same Voltage. And if possible, it would be good to have same clock speed.

Why do i keep seeing you EVERYWHERE on the forum?

Also, make sure each channel has the same config of ram sticks

Because I keep the forum open on the 2nd monitor while doing things on main monitor?

And reading up different things around.

While commenting to help people.

There are never guarantees of mixed ram being 100% stable. Most of the time it works fine, but there are those exceptions where you'd wish you went with a tested kit instead.

I could just set it aside I just have no use for it if I take it out of my PC so I'm at a loss really

Yeah I figured as much I wanted 1866Mhz but compatibility is probably a better advantage over a slight increase in speed.

Oh, and check the supported RAM models of your MB manufacturer's site.

All motherboards do not always support every ram. (though they still may work, even if not on the list, just not as efficiently)

Completely fine. Just match the speed, timings and voltages so that everybody is happy in there.

I've got two 4gig sticks of adata and two 4gig sticks of Hyperx fury in my pc right now. The fury is 1866 but running at 1600.

All I did was plug them in and set it to 1600, everything has constantly worked fine. At the beginning I ran both at 1866 but didn't think it was a good idea with the adata being supposed to be 1600

Well actually overclocking RAM really isn't too bad for it. It just reduces your max OC you can achieve with your CPU

I've ran my 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 1.35V sticks at 2200MHz 9-10-10-24 1.55V and it worked just fine.

so if the ram is rated at 1866 and automatically runs at that, will it reduce my cpu OC capability? I ask because the Adata 1600 will eventually find it's way into my mom's pc when I build her a new machine. and I will be keeping the hyperx fury ram in mine. When I first got them I put just them in and booted up and they auto set to 1866 (which is a nice feature btw)

I think rated speeds do not iirc. I'm pretty sure it's just OC'd RAM.

If you have a good memory controller then you can run at a higher speed and a higher CPU clock. Haswell can do that excellently.
