Greenlight my build

Go to solution Solved by Snake_XVI,

I'm replacing the Corsair RM750 with the RM550 and I will probably upgrade the CPU cooler in the future.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

This will be my first "build" so I'm just wondering if you had any recommendations before I go ahead and make the purchase.

Budget: 1400$

Aim: Gaming (Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Witcher 3, CS:GO...)

Monitors: Single 1920 x 1080

I'm going to use 8GB ram from my old PC.

Thanks!

theres a pretty good deal on a 128GB 840 pro. check the "deals" section of the forums. its like $60.

Other than that, it looks pretty good. Also, do you have an HDD for bulk storage? a 128GB ssd will fill up very quickly

You honestly don't need a 850 Pro in your system, I mean its great to have not it isn't necessary... (but that is my opinion)

Avoid Corsair RM power supply, they will get the job done but there are definitely better options out there for the price point...

Get Windows 8.1, better optimization

and do you really need a CD/DVD drive?

Edit: Also that motherboard is quite overpriced, but that's just what I think..

I would suggest a few changes. An i5 is all that is really needed for a good gaming system. A very good, but less expensive gaming motherboard. A cpu cooler for both quieter operation and to permit overclocking. A bigger ssd. The performance difference between it and the 850 Pro would not be noticeable in general use or game play. A better psu (80+ certifications are ratings of electrical efficiency. They do not have anything to do with build or component quality. Nor do they indicate better quality of delivered power.) Although 550W - 650W would be sufficient for this build and would allow for the addition of gpu and other components. Windows 8.1 as it will be supported longer and will have compatible drivers written for it longer than prior versions of Windows.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

As above, an i5 is more than capable.

Cheaper board and psu means a bigger SSD.

EVGA psu is far better than the Corsair.

Solid board from Gigabyte

Gigabyte G1 > Asus Strix imo

I would suggest not getting a Corsair RM. For the same price get the EVGA in my spec above as it is far better.

So EVGA has better internals and a 10 year warranty?

Personally I like the RM series, though. For silence and cosmetic reasons.

I'll think about it. Thanks

Just so you know, my quote you responded to is over a year old. RM series is still fine, but the newer EVGA Supernova G2 is a better value. Apparently there's a good price on the 750w version right now at NewEgg, if you live in the U.S.
