i have a asus g46vw laptop and was wondering if there were any good and relatively cheep options for a external gpu

cheap is not a word to associate with the external GPU solution

 

they either run off your PCCard Bus or USB 3.0

and the GPU will be bottleneck by the slow bus speed

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

This guy was able to get a Thunderbolt external GPU setup for under $250 plus the cost of whatever GPU you want :) You would need a Thunderbolt port to use it though.

for the cost and effort, a cheap mini-itx build would probably be more effective and less of a hassle.
