ok guys so i just got the crew and dragon age for my pc, i haven't gamed hardcore in a while and only just got my pc rebuilt into a new case. while playing the crew i noticed my pc was running at 66 degrees Celsius. so i was wondering is that a safe temp to play my games at? or is it too high?, my idle temps are around 30-40 degrees depending on how hot the weather is here.

my pc specs are

cpu: amd fx 8350

gpu: r9 280x dual x

motherboard: asrock 970 extreme

case: cm 690 3

cooler: coolermaster 212x

so do you guys think with this set up that temp is bad or ok to run at?

66°C when running a game for a decent amount of time (at least 30mins) is fine. If you're hitting 80°C+ you're still ok but worth keeping an eye on and 90°C+ you need to make improvements.

should change out the thermal paste If you haven't

Yep, definitely worth doing if you haven't in a while and while you're at it get the cooler mounted nice and snug to get the best thermal transfer.

The maximum safe temperature for an AMD CPU is 62C.

66C is not far above that so it should be fine as long as your PC isnt at full load for more than a couple hours at a time.

So even though its marginally safe, you should try to save up and buy a hyper 212 evo to bring it down below 62C.

I don't know where you got 62°C but amd also has the 9590 and there is no way that runs near 60°C even with approved AIOs. Also I wouldn't advise spending money on a cooler that is negligibly better at cooling, if spending more money get a decent upgrade like a $50+ tower or 120mm aio.

as i stated im running my pc with a hyper 212 and i only just re built it so fresh thermal paste was applied. im using a coolermaster cm690 3 which is pretty much all grills i have 3 exhaust fans and 2 intake fans ( 120mm and 200mm intake) my room gets extremely hot as well ( its summer here) so can that also be a factor? thanks for the help guys!  also i usually play the games for about an hour  to an hour and a half  at a time. pictures below is my pc

Thermal threshold for AMD CPUs is much lower than Intel counterparts.

You DO NOT want an AMD CPU to reach temperatures of 80°C+.

The specified maximm safe operating temperature for the FX-8100 and FX-8300 series CPUs (this includes the FX-9000) is ~62°C. The socket can be/is typically ~10°C higher (72 / 75°C).

The CPU will begin to throttle at the 70°C range.

Simply Google Search "FX-8350 maximum temperature". First result.

Under AIDA64 Stability Test, my FX-8350 @4.8GHz caps of at ~63/64°C with 1.4V on the core.

Under typical gaming loads (I.e. BF4 it hovers in the ~55°C region.

On my experiments, I concluded that FX 8350/20 @ 1.4v is a bad idea even on high end cooling. You will very fast reach dangerous temps (60°C core, 70°C socket temp -wich one comes first) . Do not ignore this basic rule.
